Mondrian-Musik - A didactical Project on Hermann Meier

January 2018

"Mondrian Music" is a project developed at the Bern University of the Arts (Hochschule der Künste Bern) in collaboration with the Kunstmuseum Solothurn and the Städtische Musikschule Solothurn. Together with my Swiss colleague Jutta Schönhofer, I organized a workshop for students of the music school, introducing them to the graphic works of the Swiss composer Hermann Meier.

During the workshop, the children discovered a new approach to music composition through graphic and painted scores. They created their own scores through drawing and painting, and explored rhythm using body percussion and Orff instruments, ultimately performing their own original compositions.

Additional aspects of the project included an exploration of the art and works of Piet Mondrian, as well as an introduction to electronic music.

Thanks to Roman Brotbeck, and all the people and Institutions involved in the Project for letting us do this wonderful experience!
